I'M FEELING

...

I DJ'd recently at a clubnight called Flipside Club where I could only play B-sides or remixes so a lot of what's here is stuff that I put together for that. These are the songs from my set for that club night which I think are keepers...

The first song's by Late Of The Pier, it's the best of a few different remixes available for 'The Bears are coming'. Apart from the slightly cheesy klaxon sound in the middle it's a good song to play in a set - it's different enough to keep things interesting, while still having some of the great hooks from the original...

The Bears Are Coming (Partyshank Remix) - Late of the Pier

The next one is a remix by The Whip of 'Any way you choose to give it' by The Black Ghosts, I got put onto this by a friend who has a talent for finding bass heavy electro remixes... this is one of the best remixes i've heard in a while. It's really heavy, pounding electro that is pretty relentless but works so well.

Any way you choose to give it (The Whip Remix) - The Black Ghosts

I also have a lot of time for 'Twelves' remix of the Black Kids song 'I'm not gona teach your boyfriend how to dance with you'. It leaves the vocal in tact pretty much and just electro-disco's it up a bit, it's all pretty standard stuff but it turns a good indie song into an electro-indie song that works well in a club.... hence it's inclusion here

The next one is a song that I know, I know has been around for what seems like forever.... but this A-Trak remix of The count and Sindens 'Beeper' was new to me until fairly recently so maybe you haven't heard it yet either... anyway. It doesn't have the Kid Sister vocals on it, and has a ridiculously catchy beat instead, whilst still having the hooks of the original when they're needed. Basically, it's good.

Last track for today is the Soulwax remix of 'You cant always get what you want' - Rolling Stones. This song really lends it's self to being played by DJ's because it sounds about 20x better when it's been speeded up by a fair bit, it's so slow when i listen to it normal speed now! If you've got any sort of DJing software or your a laptop DJ then this is one for you. Otherwise, it's just 'OK'.

Also... went to see Soulwax at the amazing new Victoria works venue in Leeds (it's a huge converted warehouse) and it genuinely looked and sounded a lot like this trailer! If you get chance go see these guys live, do.

To be continued....
